About

Fariya Walji is a lawyer, speaker, consultant, and trainer with deep experience in legal education, talent development, and skill-building for professional audiences. She is known for her clear, human-centred teaching approach and her ability to simplify complex skills into practical, confidence-building tools.

She began her career as Crown Counsel, litigating trial and appellate matters and contributing to legislative reform, policy development, police training, and media strategy. Her work in government shaped her commitment to clarity, communication, and accessible legal systems.

Fariya later served as a senior leader of the Law Practice Program (LPP), where she oversaw the training of hundreds of new lawyers each year. She advised executive leadership on program strategy, designed practical skills-based training modules, and collaborated with employers, instructors, and stakeholders across Ontario’s legal profession.

Today, Fariya works with law firms, legal departments, law schools, and professional organizations to deliver practical, research-informed training and advisory support. Her independent practice includes speaking, executive-facing workshops, leadership sessions, and consulting on training strategy and competency development.

She is also the co-founder of Creative Learning Strategies, where she partners with Chris Cheung to build immersive, multi-session training programs rooted in scenario-based learning and modern practice needs. Augmented by AI, these sessions help lawyers develop the core skills they need to build a sustainable practice in a technology-driven world.

Beyond her professional work, Fariya serves as the Vice-President of the Women’s Law Association of Ontario (WLAO) and mentors emerging lawyers across the province. The WLAO is a non-profit organization founded in 1919. It serves as a collective voice for women in the legal profession, advocating for equality, diversity, and change through networking, educational, and social events. The organization supports law students, lawyers, and judges by providing resources and a platform to address issues relevant to women in law. In a leadership capacity, Fariya offers guidance in areas including governance, advocacy, mentorship and more.

In her spare time, she enjoys the arts (creating mosaics, painting, cake decorating, watching theatre) and reading a great mystery novel with a hot cup of tea. She is the proud mother to two hilarious, fiercely independent daughters, and a champion, cheerleader, and partner to her incredibly smart and humble husband, Sameer Gulamani.
